Amazon.co.uk:
Call of Duty returns, and to many people’s surprise, it’s going back to World War II. While original series creators Infinity Ward brought the series into the modern day, developer Treyarch are setting out to make the definitive historical first-person shooter.
The Soviet attack on Berlin features intense street battles
Take on the Japanese navy as you board a U.S. flying boat
World at War features the most realistic fire effects ever
The new ability to swim adds to both the story and multiplayer modes

The game is primarily set in the Pacific theatre and has a much more realistic, violent tone requiring less-linear game play than previous Call of Duty installments. You'll struggle to survive Japanese attacks without mastering new gaming skills, like swimming or how to use a flamethrower--a weapon that packs some punch in the fully destructable game world.

Also featured is a campaign on the Eastern front, where you take control of a soldier in the Soviet Red Army during the attack on Berlin in the closing stages of the war. The game also includes the series’ first co-op mode, while the competitive multiplayer mode aims to build upon the achievements of Call of Duty 4 and add to the game’s longevity.

Key Features
  • Dual campaigns: Fight in two very different World War II battles. Take on the Japanese Imperial army in the Pacific, and liberate Berlin as part of the Soviet Red Army.
  • Grim realities: Experience the most bloody and realistic combat ever seen in the series, as you witness enemy atrocities and wield horrific new weapons such as the flamethrower.
  • Job with benefits: Revamped competitive multiplayer mode features useable vehicles and an expanded perks system from Call of Duty 4.
  • Brothers in arms: For the first time, a Call of Duty game features a four-player co-operative mode that’s playable online or via a split screen option on the same console.
  • Modern graphics: The game uses an enhanced version of the Call of Duty 4 graphics engine, with wood that splinters realistically when shot and fires that spread organically.
About the Developer: Treyarch
One of publisher Activision’s biggest internal studios, Treyarch have worked on many of the company’s best known titles, from the Spider-Man movie tie-ins and spin-offs to several of the Call of Duty sequels and the new James Bond game, Quantum of Solace.

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Same As COD4!
I fully expected World at War to improve on areas that were weak in Modern Warfare, such as the graphics. However, i found World at War to be almost identical to Modern Warfare, apart from the obvious differences like it's set in World War Two. There have been no improvements in graphics, the campaign seems to follow the same pattern as Modern Warfare; for example, you engage in a sniper mission like in Modern Warfare and have to take out a similar target too. Also, you play a mission in a aircraft ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Incredable
On the back of the box it says the best war experience ever. The box does not lie! Best game I have by a long shot. The levels are challenging but not to challenging. It is very addictive, i was playing it for 4 hours a day! Great, if you don't buy this game your such an idiot!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Great game!
After a long time out of the gaming scene (I was a master at Quake back in 96/97 haha) I decided to get myself an xbox, an LCD TV and Call Of Duty World At War.

So for a newbie I didn't know what to expect - but the game is class. Didn't take me long to get into. The gameplay, graphics and everything are excellent. Looking forward to online play.

I hear that Modern Warfare is better, probably because of the advanced weapons etc. However I have no problem with this game, varied ... Read More

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Shaemful cash-in on the COD brand.
I, like many, went into this game having reasonably enjoyed every installment up to COD 4, which I avoided because of the reviews. I am an avid FPS-gamer, anything to do with shooting stuff and blowing stuff up and im there (some may see that as alarming but I find it more enjoyable than buying houses in some imaginary world, GTA anyone?)

Anyway, I mainly bought the game for it's co-op campiagn. Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear. The co-op campiagn is so scandalously unfinished it almost feels like ... Read More

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Hmmmmm....
I bought this game because i enjoyed call of duty 3 and 4 and thought how amazing it should be.

I got it home and found that the single player (what i did of it) was pretty naff and i really didnt like the way the screen split in co-op mode!

Multi player online was a bit better, not as good as COD 3 and 4. I didnt really enjoy most of the maps and gave up on it all pretty soon.

I traded it in and forgot about it until the other day and now im craving to play ... Read More
